New Buildings and Facilities at Emmanuel

Fri 15 Oct 2010

Building work on the church which has seen refurbishment of the existing facilities and the creation of a new ‘link’ building – connecting the Church and Church Hall for the first time – was completed in December 2010.

The project started several years ago and the first works (construction of a platform and the fitting of a new heating system) began over two years ago, although the main construction project only began in January 2010. The work has created new toilets,  full disabled access to the whole of the premises, a new meeting room and entrance area.

The hope is that, in addition to making the church more welcoming and usable on Sundays, it will now provide an enlarged and improved facility for the whole community to use throughout the week.  The premises have already been used for a number of concerts, meetings and events.  The church/auditorium has comfortable seating, stage lighting, projectors and screens and lighting and soundboard, making it suitable for all types of concert, performances, conferences and meetings.  We also now offer the use of a hall and kitchen and a smaller meeting room both of which can have the use of projectors and screens.

The new building was inspired by the Chapel of Nôtre Dame du Haut in Ronchamp, France designed by Le Corbusier and built in 1955. It also incorporates a range of design features to minimise its impact on the environment, including a sedum roof.
